Candidly speaking, the central challenge of Arati’s campaign was cultural. Though Austin is hailed as a progressive beacon in the state of Texas, finding ways for voters to trust, and eventually prefer, a candidate with a non-traditional name was key to the success of the campaign early on. Through hosting a multitude of meet and greets, a heavily involved volunteer and field strategy, and eye-catching print materials, we were able to position Arati as the trustworthy and experienced choice. We supplemented this by highlighting Arati’s legislative advocacy and hands-on teaching background.
